November is National Family Caregivers Month! If you are a caregiver for your spouse, an aging parent, or an adult with a disability, you won’t want to miss Howard County’s 4th annual workshop for family caregivers. “The Caregiving Journey: Strategies, Support, Success” will be held on Saturday, November 14, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, in Laurel, Md. Admission is $10, and includes a continental breakfast, lunch, all materials, and respite care for those in your care (if needed). Registration is required by Monday, November 9.
Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman will present opening remarks about the County’s 20 year plan to build an age-friendly community. A keynote presentation, “Taking Care of the Caregiver” by Barbara Catlin, will follow, highlighting the critical importance of caregivers to make time to nurture themselves.
Following the keynote address, attendees can attend a variety of informative workshops, including Caregiving Basics; Legal 101; Managing Someone Else’s Money; Managing Challenging Behaviors; Relationship Changes between Caregiver & Care Recipient; Activities for Individuals with Cognitive Issues; Alternate Long-Term Care Living Options; Palliative Care; and Coping with Loss and Grief.
