The below notice was recently posted by the Social Security Administration regarding attempts to get personal information from unsuspecting callers.  You’ve probably noticed how caller ID’s can be changed to reflect virtually any dialing location desired.  Now it is being done using the SSA customer service number.  General tips to remember are:

  • If you’re wary of a caller’s identity, ask for a case number and representative name, then call the entity back at their main customer service number which should be available on their website or via one of your regular printed statements.
  • Note the below tip not to yield to excessive urgency for you to comply with their information demand. That’s another red flag.
